Making Christmas Greeting Cards with Kids

Sending greeting cards made by kids to friends and relatives make Christmas memorable. Let making Christmas greeting cards be a wonderful experience for the kids with these ideas for making a Christmas greeting card.

The custom of making and sending a Christmas greeting card is a very personal and fun activity. The one who makes and sends it and the person receiving it feel a great deal of joy. It is also a wonderful experience for the kids when they are involved in this activity. This splendid custom of sending Christmas cards in fact dates back to 1840, with the commencement of Penny Post in Britain.

People began with handwritten greeting cards and then as printing evolved, Christmas cards began to be sent in bulk. The very essence of sending greeting cards during Christmas is to enhance bonding amongst family members, distant relatives and friends. It is a wonderful opportunity to renew our association with family and friends, especially when we are increasingly being unable to connect with them due to our fast-paced individual lifestyles. The moment we involve kids, we also teach them the importance of family and bonding, it is all about wishing each other well and spreading love.

How to Make Christmas Greeting Cards with Kids

Here are some simple ideas on how we can involve the kids in the process:

First you need to make sure that you have a good supply of the required ingredients. Some of them are like –

  • Sheets of card stock paper

  • Crayons, colour pencils, markers

  • Glitter glue

  • Glitters, coloured dust

  • Coloured cotton balls
Point to note, these are just a few of the possible ingredients that you can use to make your card. You can use a lot more if you so desire. Ask the opinion of the kid on what are his ideas on making a card. You might well be surprised at the innovative ideas that the little one may come up with. The only thing that you need to keep in mind is that the materials that you use for making the Christmas card should be safe for the child.

Simplest Way to Make Christmas Cards

Have a look at the simplest way to make a Christmas card.

  • Fold the card stock paper into half.

  • Use the green glitter glue to draw an outline of a Christmas tree.

  • Make sure you tell the kid to take out the stopper before drawing the tree.

  • Using a washable glitter glue is the best option as it can be easily washed off, if the kid marks it anywhere else, or wishes to wash his hands off.

  • Glitter glue is a fun and exciting ingredient as no matter how the intended shape turns out to be, kids always find it fun to work it. After all, the fun and excitement of the kids are most important.

  • Now use some blue glitter glue to give an impression of snowflakes.

  • Ask the kid to use any of his or her favourite colours to add in some lights and ornaments in the tree drawn. Large sized red dots can be fun.

At the end of it, ask the child to write a special message that he or she might want to write to the recipient.

Tips for Making Chirstmas Cards

You can also get some patterned templates, cut them out and ask the kid to place them on the card. A mounting tape can also be used to stick a smaller flower to a larger one. Get some patterned cut outs and ask the kid to glue them and stick them to form a nice beautiful design on the card.

You can also use discs, use metallic threads to tie them down and let some loose strings hanging, say, in the design of a bow. Some little copper or other metallic wires can be used to form branches of a tree by twisting them and threading them into the card. Basically you can let your imagination take the lead as you discuss and plan the design of the card with your little one.

Making Christmas greeting cards with kids will not only help you to keep your kids involved but also to spend memorable moments with them. Involve your entire family in this activity so that you can spend a great time with not only your kids but also your family.
