Tips for Keeping Children Busy During Vacations

Tips for Keeping Children Busy During Vacations

Children tend to become more lazy and mischievous when the vacations start. Therefore it is a must to keep them busy in fruitful activities during this time. Have a quick look at some tips for keeping your children busy during vacations.

Vacations are a great time to relax and rejuvenate. It is also a great time to bond with your kids. However, many parents have often complained about how their kids never seem to have anything constructive to do in summer holidays. They spend the time lazing around or wasting it in front of the television.
Children also tend to misbehave and become naughty when they have nothing else to do. However, if you plan ahead, you can make the vacations a fun time not only for your kid but for yourself too. Here are some tips which will help your kids to stay busy during the long holiday months.

1. Recreate Games or Invent New Ones

Your child has probably gotten sick and tired of playing her old games so give her some new ideas. The old dart board can get a fresh coat of paint and you can play pin the donkey’s tail while being blindfolded. If your child is a little older, a deck of cards specially made for children can also keep her engaged for days because there are so many different games that can be played with such decks.

2. Art and Crafts

There can never be any end to creativity and you can get her enrolled in summer classes of quelling or paper crafts. New techniques of paintings like watercolour or acrylic can keep her engaged too. You can also get her hooked to YouTube tutorials of origami or simple DIY crafts. They can also make simple jewellery if they find that interesting. Also, make sure you teach them to clean up the mess after they are done making the craft because otherwise it will be a major headache for you.

3. Cooking

Follow pages which show easy dishes with a few steps that can be made by children. Baking is one more thing you can get your child interested in. Involve her from the very first step and then let her mix ingredients and help you in the entire process.

4. Bedroom Makeovers

You probably get too tired of cleaning their rooms so get them to do it by themselves. Start with the closet and then move on to the whole room. You can also encourage them to get glow in the dark stickers to give the room a new look after they are done cleaning it up.

5. Reading

Reading a multitude of storybooks will not only transport you child into fantasy land but also prevent vacation learning losses in the field of spellings and reading. Reading is a habit that should be encouraged by all parents.

6. Go for a Picnic or Visit the Museum or Zoo

Utilise all the free time to do things you cannot do on regular days. Trips to the zoo and museums can help children learn a lot more. They can witness parts of what is taught to them in books. Picnic, even with the simplest of ingredients can make a boring afternoon a lot of fun.

7. Go Swimming or Cycling

Healthy activities should be encouraged too. Children who remain inactive all through vacations tend to gain a lot of weight. Cycling or swimming are very good ideas during vacations.

8. Relax and Rejuvenate

After you do all the above mentioned activities, your children will also want some time to relax. Keep some days aside where you just watch movies, play video games and stay lazy. Some days like these helps rejuvenate your kids and you too.
Vacations are times that are meant to be enjoyed. Keep your children in touch with some of their study books too so that they do not go completely off sync with them. Apart from that, let them enjoy their time off in the best possible manner.

Taking basic revisions is also a must. Reading story books, writing multiplication tables etc will keep them in touch with studies.
